David Van Wert, outstanding alumnus and agri-businessman, received Alpha Gamma Rho’s highest honor in Indianapolis, Ind. on August 3, 2014. Alpha Gamma Rho, with more than 50,000 members nationwide, inducted Van Wert into the Hall of Fame.

With a well-versed background in agriculture and business, Van Wert has been instrumental in adding value to poultry and pork operations across the country over the course of his career. Since graduating from Iowa State in 1960, he has worked for a number of divisions of Swift and Company, IBP and ConAgra. Before retiring, he spent eight years as president and CEO of Van Wert Associates Consulting. Currently, Van Wert volunteers for a number of organizations including his local Rotary club, Iowa State University and Alpha Gamma Rho.

Van Wert’s dedication to Alpha Gamma Rho is evident through his years of participation at both the national and chapter level. He has provided advice and guidance to Eta Chapter at Iowa State as well as providing financial support for the Chapter. He founded the Eta Chapter Fund within The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho and helped to fund the Eta Chapter House addition. From 1996 until 2002, Van Wert served the Foundation as a member on the Board of Directors, serving as president of the board for two of those years. In 2006, he served the National Fraternity on the National Convention Steering Committee. Van Wert was also named an AGR Brother of the Century in 2004. His lifelong dedication to the Fraternity and outstanding service to the agriculture industry have qualified his recognition for the Alpha Gamma Rho Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame is to honor those Alpha Gamma Rho alumni who have made outstanding contributions to Alpha Gamma Rho and/or outstanding service in their professional work and/or exceptional service to mankind. Inductees should be held in high esteem as other AGRs reflect on the Brother’s stature.
