Brother Ole Meland, Chi (Cal Poly), outstanding alumnus and genetics and animal breeding expert, received Alpha Gamma Rho’s highest honor in Indianapolis, Ind. on August 3, 2014. Alpha Gamma Rho, with more than 50,000 members nationwide, inducted Meland into the Hall of Fame.
With a well-versed background in genetics and animal breeding, Meland has greatly contributed to advancements in dairy genetics and artificial insemination in the United States and around the world. Since graduating from California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy Science in 1977, he has gone on to earn master’s and doctorate degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University and climb the ranks of Tri State Breeders Coop/Accelerated Genetics. In addition, Meland has demonstrated his ability as an outstanding dairy cattle judge, officiating shows around the world. Currently, he is a Genetic Consultant with the National Association of Animal Breeders.
Meland’s dedication to Alpha Gamma Rho is evident through his years of committed participation at the chapter level and his long history of involvement and leadership at the national level. Meland was a Charter Member of Chi Chapter, and served in the Alumni President and Adviser roles for Beta Eta. Currently, he serves as the Housemother Coordinator of the National Fraternity and has since 1991. Meland was honored with the Alpha Gamma Rho Grand President’s award in 1994, served as Grand President from 1994 to 1996 and was named an AGR Brother of the Century in 2004. His lifelong dedication to the Fraternity and outstanding service to the agriculture industry have qualified his recognition for the Alpha Gamma Rho Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame is to honor those Alpha Gamma Rho alumni who have made outstanding contributions to Alpha Gamma Rho and/or outstanding service in their professional work and/or exceptional service to mankind. Inductees should be held in high esteem as other AGRs reflect on the Brother’s stature.
