Brother Logan Britton of Alpha Zeta Chapter at Kansas State University was one of two recipients of the 2023 U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture Early Career Award for Excellence in College and University Teaching for Food and Agriculture Sciences at the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Annual Meeting in Seattle from November 12 through November 13, 2023.
He was also one of three people awarded the 2024 Southern Agricultural Economics Association Emerging Scholar Award in Teaching. Brother Britton was presented the award at the 2024 SAEA Annual Meeting in Atlanta on February 5, 2024.
Brother Britton obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics and minored in Agricultural Communications and Journalism in 2015. He graduated with his Master of Science in Agricultural Economics in 2016. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy, also focused on Agricultural Economics.
Brother Gregg Doud, also from Alpha Zeta Chapter at Kansas State, moved from the Chief Operating Officer at the National Milk Producers Federation to President and CEO in January 2024.
In his first address to the organization as CEO, he talked about what he plans to focus on this year in his new position.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share in the leadership of this journey,” Brother Doud said.
Brother Doud holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in Agriculture and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics, both from Kansas State University.
Many brothers of Lambda Chapter at the University of Minnesota made the Dean’s List in the fall 2023 semester. The Chapter posted on social media that 50% of active members in the chapter made a GPA of 3.66 or higher. Congratulations to the brothers on their hard work!
Seven brothers from Phi Chapter at California-Davis attended the Colusa Farm Show breakfast, which is one of the oldest farm shows in the West. The brothers noted the event gave them the opportunity to connect with their alumni and network with other individuals in agriculture. Every year, one of Phi Chapter’s brothers gives a speech at the breakfast. This year, Brother Andrew Salentine, Noble Ruler of the Chapter got the opportunity to do so.
Alpha Zeta Chapter at Kansas State University is collaborating with Kansas Corn Growers Association for their Trading Conversations Agriculture Symposium March 22, 2024.
The event will host a variety of speakers in the agriculture industry including Chairman of the US Grains Council, Brent Boydston; Kansas Beef Council Chairman Tyler Breeden; President of the Kansas Livestock Association Phil Weltmer and others from the National Corn Growers Association and US Meat Export Federation.
The event is open to alumni across the nation. It will be held in the Stanley Stout Center in Manhattan, KS from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Brothers can register at the Kansas Corn website.
Brother Brad Garrison of Beta Tau Chapter at Mississippi State University was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni Fellow for the Department of Landscape Architecture by Mississippi State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Brother Garrison currently works as a Regional Sports Field Category Manager for Ewing Outdoor Supply. He graduated from Mississippi State in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Management.
Brother Justin Davis from Alpha Beta Chapter at Oregon State University attended the World Ag Expo in Tulare, California February 13-15 where he got to learn more about agriculture engineering. Brother Davis is an mechanical engineer major who would like to use his degree to aid farmers in sustainability and automation. Brothers Jose Trejo and Jerry Xie from Phi Chapter at California-Davis also attended the World Ag Expo. The brothers learned about some of the industry’s latest innovations and got to network with a variety of industry leaders.
Maryland LEAD sent six AGR Brothers to Panama. The brothers each were from a different AGR chapter but were all fellows of Maryland LEAD Class 12, including Brother Logan Yearsley, Beta Omega Chapter; Brother Edwin Remsberg, Alpha Theta Chapter; Brother Tim Bishton, Beta Psi Chapter; Brother Jonathan Albright, Alpha Alpha Chapter; Brother Ryan Zimmerman, Beta Eta Chapter; and Brother Tyler Majchrzak, Omicron Chapter.
The LEAD Maryland Fellowship Program, a University of Maryland Extension Signature Program, is provided through a collaborative effort between the LEAD Maryland Foundation and the University of Maryland Extension, along with many other organizations, businesses, and individuals that work to fund, plan, implement, and evaluate the program and its activities. LEAD Maryland Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to identifying and developing leadership to serve agriculture, natural resources, and rural communities.
The LEAD Program awards a two-year fellowship to selected participants, creating classes of 20-25 emerging leaders. The LEAD Fellowship curriculum focuses on providing public issues education, skills building, leadership development, and personal growth.
Over the course of two years, LEAD program curriculum delivers lessons through a series of nine multi-day seminars, as well as participation in an international study tour.
LEAD Maryland's curriculum includes lessons learned through participation in an international study tour. Fellows learn different perspectives of issues, trade, culture, government, agriculture, the environment, and more. Fellows see themselves and the world around them differently. Travel changes people and LEAD's international study tours allow Fellows to grow as leaders.
During the 10-day Panama tour, the class experienced so many different cultural and agricultural aspects of the country and its’ people.
