Alpha Delta Chapter at Montana State University held their annual Burning Hog philanthropy event August 23.
The chapter served food and had a live concert for the event with roughly 400 people in attendance. The event was Hawaiian themed, and the live entertainment was Michael Armstrong and the Prairie Fire.
“It turned out to be a phenomenal event,” Brother Tanner Collins, Noble Ruler of the chapter said.
Burning Hog has been a philanthropy event for as long as Brother Collins can remember. This year, like every year, the chapter cooked an entire hog, which was shredded and served to attendees. Participants could pay $15 for food and the concert, or $10 for just the concert.
Brother Collins said the funds raised by the event are added to the amount the chapter raises during their biggest event, the Testy Festival, held every September.
The chapter raises funds for several organizations including, YMCA, Heroes on Horses, Montana 4-H, Montana FFA and Eagle Mount.
“We have been donating to them for the past three years,” Brother Collins said. “They’re very supportive of us, so we do our best to give back to them and all their agricultural organizations in the state of Montana.”
The chapter has raised $4,200 just from their Burning Hog event this year.
Brother Collins said the event wouldn’t be possible without the the help of his chapter brothers. He said the event is a great way to get the brothers together and build the bonds of brotherhood.
He noted that all of the brothers at the chapter house help out either by serving food, selling tickets, or just making sure things are running smoothly. Then, they get to enjoy the event as well and socialize with their fellow students on campus.
“It just sets the tone for the rest of the semester and gets everyone excited for Testy Fest,” Brother Collins said.
The chapter said next year they don’t plan on changing much of the event. They might consider swapping out bands depending on their budget.
